On routine patrol in the forest sector where he dwelled, Dax heard the sound of footsteps. Immediately, he got down on his belly and started to scout the area. He moved slowly and silently over the brush. He’d been terribly bored lately and itching to experience some action.
His leg had been wounded when he’d been taken prisoner by the Sun People over ten months ago, causing him to walk with a slight limp. He had barely escaped with his life and, once healed, he wanted nothing more than to return to duty. His superiors thought they were doing him a favor by sending him into the quietest sector in the land, but their decision caused him great frustration with the solitude and lack of military activity.
He continued to crawl on his belly, edging himself toward the possible intruder. For a large man with a wounded leg, he moved with incredible swiftness and stealth. He had trained hundreds of soldiers with this covert technique, but he still remained the master of this skill. He edged closer to the sound, determined to find the source of the footsteps. His body halted as he came to a clearing, sticking to the brush for cover.
Approximately twenty feet away from his location stood a tribal member of the hostile Sun People. Her back faced him, so he couldn’t see what she was doing. He quickly scanned the area, and came to the conclusion they were alone. Almost disappointed he wouldn’t face much of a challenge apprehending his prey, he inched toward her.
She turned slightly, and he froze, hoping she didn’t pick up his previous movement in her peripheral vision. He noticed a glint of light flash in her hand, realizing immediately she held a knife. She reached above her head and cut off a leaf from the tree standing majestically before her. She folded the knife up and slid it into her pocket.
Not understanding her unusual behavior, he worked his way closer, remaining partially hidden in the brush. His hatred of the Sun People caused him to have to take a deep, calming breath. The ruling queen insisted on taking prisoners alive, interrogating them by whatever means necessary, and then killing them. He needed to follow the protocol dictated by the queen. He would take this woman prisoner and make her beg for mercy like they’d tried to make him beg when he had been captured.
He crept closer, bridging the gap between them. She now stood only five feet away from him. It seemed the perfect time to take her prisoner with her knife safely stowed away and her attention fully on the cut leaf. He quietly stood up behind her and pulled out his shock-gun. Turning on the charge, he took two steps closer, his height dwarfing her tiny frame. He reached out with his weapon and touched the tip to her right shoulder. Electric current ran through her body, causing her to convulse briefly as she crumpled to her knees and then fell forward, passing out instantly.
“Too easy,” Dax grumbled regretfully as he turned off his shock-gun and placed it back in the holder attached to his belt. Disappointed that she offered no challenge, he turned his attention to the pile of leaves in her specimen kit.
“What are you up to?” he asked as he shoved all her belongings into her bag. He then turned his attention to the enemy lying on the ground. He rolled her over and his breath caught in his throat. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Even though her body seemed tiny, she had curvy hips and a narrow waist. Her pink, full lips complemented her fair complexion and her long, dark-red eyelashes spanned her closed eyes, making him wonder what striking color lay beneath. He glanced up and down her body and noticed her erect nipples seemed to call to him begging for his touch.
He reminded himself she would kill him without hesitation, and he snapped back to reality. With all her belongings now in her bag, he roughly patted down her body, and removed the knife from her pocket. He took out his handcuffs and bound her hands together. Slinging her bag over one shoulder, he picked up her body and threw it over his other shoulder. He kept one hand on her ass and the other on her smooth calves.
He had to carry her about a mile back to his single dwelling compound. As he hiked with the added weight of his prisoner on his shoulders, his leg began to ache with every step. Tonight, he would pay dearly for pushing himself, but the reward of finally seeing both kinds of action more than made up for the pain.
